1. A rectangle is a quadrilateral in which all corners are straight. That is, they are equal to 90 degrees.

2. The opposite sides of the rectangle are equal. If one side of the rectangle is A and the other is B, then the area of the rectangle is S = A * B and the perimeter of P = 2 * (A + B).

3. By the hypothesis of the problem, one side of the rectangle A = 4 cm. Then its area
S = 36 cm2 = 4 cm * B cm. Hence B = S / 4 = 36/4 = 9 cm.

4. Determine the perimeter of the rectangle: P = 2 * (4 + 9) = 2 * 13 = 26 cm.

Answer: the perimeter of the rectangle is 26 cm.
