The area of the first potato field is 68 hectares, and the second – 75 hectares. The farmer from the first field harvested 910 quintals less potatoes than from the second. How many quintals of potatoes did he collect from each field if the yield in the fields is the same?
The solution of the problem:
1. Let’s find how much more the area of the second potato field than the area of the first potato field.
75-68 = 7 hectares
2. Determine in the second step how many centner of potatoes the farmer collected from one hectare of field.
910/7 = 130 centner
3. Let’s calculate how many quintals of potatoes the farmer collected from the first field.
68 * 130 = 8840 centner
4. Now we find in the fourth step how many hundredweight of potatoes the farmer collected from the second field.
75 * 130 = 9750 centner
Answer: Eight thousand eight hundred and forty centners of potatoes were harvested from the first field, and nine thousand seven hundred and fifty centners of potatoes were harvested from the second field.
