The area of the rectangle ABCD is 360. Side BC = 40. Find the tangent of the CAD angle.

The area of a rectangle is equal to the product of two adjacent sides, therefore, knowing the area and one of the sides, we find the second side:

S = AB * BC;

AB = S / BC = 360/40 = 9.

The opposite sides of the rectangle are equal, so BC = AD = 40, AB = CD = 9.

Triangle CAD – rectangular, CD and AD – legs. Leg CD is opposite to CAD, leg AD is adjacent. The ratio of the opposite leg to the adjacent leg is equal to the tangent of the angle:

tg CAD = CD / AD = 9/40 = 0.225.
