The autonomic nervous system.

The peripheral nervous system is divided into autonomic (ganglionic) and somatic. The autonomic nervous system is not subject to human consciousness and controls the functionality of internal organs, glands of internal and external secretion, smooth muscles, lymphatic and blood vessels. It is subdivided into sympathetic and parasympathetic. The first is responsible for the body’s response to stress, and the second is activated in the event of a state of rest.
