| The base of an isosceles triangle is 2 times smaller than the lateral side. The perimeter is 30cm, find the side length.
Let be
x is the length of the lateral side of an isosceles triangle;
x / 2 is the length of the base of an isosceles triangle.
We get the equation:
x / 2 + 2x = 30;
x + 4x = 60;
5x = 60;
x = 60/5;
x = 12.
12 cm – the length of the lateral side of an isosceles triangle;
12/2 = 6 cm – the length of the base of an isosceles triangle.
Verification:
6 + 2 x 12 = 6 + 24 = 30 cm.
