We denote by variable x the length of the lateral side of the represented isosceles triangle.
The perimeter of the triangle: P = 2x + a, whence we express: 2x = P – a and x = (P – a) / 2, where P is the perimeter (P = 62.4 cm); a – the length of the base of the triangle (a = 24.6 cm).
Calculation: x = (P – a) / 2 = (62.4 – 24.6) / 2 = 37.8 / 2 = 18.9 cm.
Answer: The side of the presented isosceles triangle is 18.9 cm long.
