The biomass of snails is equal to 40% of the biomass of algae and is 400 kg. The biomass of bream is 116kg. Determine the initial biomass of the algae. Determine the number of bream if the mass of 1 bream is 6 kg.

1. Determine the biosmass of algae (x (kg)): We make a proportion, where 40% – 400 kg 100% – x (kg), multiply crosswise (according to the property of proportion) and we get: 400 / x = 2/5 => x = 1000 (kg) Biomass of algae = 1000 (kg) 2. Determine the number of bream (x (bream)): We make a proportion, where 1 (bream) – 6 (kg) x (bream) – 116 (kg), multiply crosswise (by property of proportion) and we get: 1 / x = 6/116 x = 19 (2/6) = 19 (1/3) Round and get: 20 bream, since bream cannot be equal to 1/3
Answer: Biomass of algae = 1000 (kg); 20 bream
