Let’s start with the fact that the total height will consist of two distances: for convenience we denote it H. H = h1 + h2. One of the heights is known, you need to find another. To find the distance that the body will pass in the second case with the initial speed, you need to remember the corresponding formula: h2 = Vot-gt ^ 2/2. All quantities are there, all of them are already in the SI system. It remains to substitute and calculate: h2 = 4 * 2 – 10 * 4/2 = -12 m. The minus sign is not taken into account, it goes modulo, because the body has risen by 12 m. So the entire height H is equal to: 40 + 12 = 52 (m).
