The body was thrown upwards at a speed of 5 m / s. Determine how high the body will rise.

Task data: V0 (throw speed, initial speed) = 5 m / s; V (speed at maximum height, final speed) = 0 m / s.

Constants: g (acceleration due to gravity) ≈ 10 m / s2.

Method 1) We use the law of conservation of energy: En = Ek and m * g * hmax = m * V0 ^ 2/2, whence hmax = m * V0 ^ 2 / (2 * m * g) = V0 ^ 2 / (2 * g) = 5 ^ 2 / (2 * 10) = 1.25 m.

Method 2) We use the formula to calculate the distance traveled: S = hmax = (V ^ 2 – V0 ^ 2) / 2a = (0 – V0 ^ 2) / (2 * (-g)) = V0 ^ 2 / 2g = 5 ^ 2 / (2 * 10) = 1.25m.
