The bottom of the pool is shaped like a rectangle, the length of which is 5 times its width, and the width is 200 m less than its length. How many 20cm square ceramic tiles will it take to cover the bottom of this pool?

The width of the pool is 5 times less than its length, that is, length = 5 * width.
Therefore, 4 * width – this is 200 m, for which the width is less than the length.
Then the width of the pool = 200 m / 4 = 5 m, and its length = 5 * 5 m = 25 m.
Let’s find the area of the bottom of the pool: length * width = 25 m * 5 m = 12,500 sq.m.
Ceramic tiles – a square with a side of 20 cm = 0.2 m.
Then its area = 0.2 * 0.2 = 0.04 sq. M.
We find out the number of tiles by dividing the area of the pool bottom by the area of the tiles: 12,500 / 0.04 = 312,500 pieces.
