First, the English researcher Robert Hooke discovered and described plant cells. Hooke’s primitive microscope “did not see” the cells of living organisms. But science did not stand still. Soon, the famous French scientist Anthony Van Leeuwenhoek created lenses with 200x magnification, with the help of which he was able to see small cells of the human body (erythrocytes, spermatozoa), as well as microscopic representatives of protozoa and bacteria.
