The city that is the center of the Catholic Church (16th century)

The Vatican has been a sacred city for all Catholics for many centuries. Today it is recognized as a city-state because it has its own system of government and is self-sustaining. Here is not only the official residence of the Pope, but also many educational institutions that train future pastors, as well as institutions of the Catholic faith. Geographically, the Vatican is located in Italy, but it is considered a separate structural unit that does not formally participate in political life, but solves issues from the standpoint of faith.
