The difference between the reign of French and English kings in the Middle Ages.

In the Middle Ages, England was able to avoid the complete feudal fragmentation that existed in Germany and France. This was largely achieved thanks to the system of subordination of the vassals to one overlord – the king. Due to the bad climate, the peasantry was not as large an estate as in France.

Therefore, in England, the power of the king was weakened due to the growing demands of the bourgeois townspeople.

In France, due to the existing rules, feudal fragmentation ensued, which they could overcome only after the Hundred Years War.
