The edge of one cube is 2 times less than the edge of the other cube, and the sum of their volumes is 1125 dm³. Find the edge of the smaller cube.
Let the edge of the smaller cube be “a”, then the edge of the larger cube will be “2a”. The formula for the volume of a cube is V = a^3. Knowing the sum of the volumes of the two cubes, we compose and solve the equation:
a ^ 3 + (2a) ^ 3 = 1125;
a ^ 3 + 8a ^ 3 = 1125;
