| The EMF of the source is 2.4 V. to determine the internal resistance of the electricity source, if, when a 24 Ohm resistor is included in the circuit, the ammeter showed a current strength of 0.8 A.
EMF = 2.4 V.
R = 2.4 ohms.
I = 0.8 A.
r -?
According to Ohm’s law for a closed circuit, the current in the circuit I is directly proportional to the electromotive force of the current source EMF and inversely proportional to the total resistance of the circuit: I = EMF / (R + r). Where R is the external resistance of the circuit, r is the resistance of the current source.
R + r = EMF / I.
r = EMF / I – R.
r = 2.4 V / 0.8 A – 2.4 Ohm = 1.1 Ohm.
Answer: the internal resistance of the current source is r = 1.1 Ohm.
