The figure is split into a square and a rectangle. Its total area is 88 cm2. Find the length and width of the rectangle if the side of the square is 8 cm. It is 2 cm longer than the length of the rectangle.

1) Let’s find out what area a given square has, if it is known that its side is 8 cm.

8 * 8 = 64 cm².

2) Let’s find out what area of the rectangle, if it is known that its joint area with the square is 88 cm², and the area of the square is 64 cm².

88 – 64 = 24 cm².

3) Find out how long the rectangle has if it is 2 cm less than the length of the side of the square.

8 – 2 = 6 cm.
