The first plants that appeared on land were called psilophytes. They resemble algae in structure. These plants had no leaves. Psilophytes consisted only of rhizoids, which were attached to the soil, stem and spore capsules. They multiplied by spores, as you might guess. But they did not live on dry soil. They could fix only in wetlands, since they could not yet receive the water they needed from the soil. Dimensions could be from a few millimeters to several meters in height.
