| The function is given by the formula: y = -7x-1. Find the coordinates of the point of intersection of the graph of this function with the y-axis.
In order to find the point of intersection of the graph of the function given by the equation y = – 7x – 1 with the ordinate axis, we substitute it into the existing equation y = 0 and solve the resulting linear equation with respect to the variable x.
So, y = 0, then:
0 = – 7x – 1;
– 7x – 1 = 0;
we transfer the terms without variable to the right-hand side of the equation. When transferring terms from one side of the equation to another, we change the sign of the term to the opposite:
– 7x = 1;
Divide both sides of the equation by – 7:
x = – 1/7.
Answer: (- 1/7; 0)
