The height BD of a right-angled triangle ABC is 24 cm and cuts off a segment DC equal to 18 cm from the hypotenuse AC. Find AB Cos of angle A.

From triangle ВDS => hypotenuse BC = root of 18 * 18 + 24 * 24 = root of 900 = 30 cm then: cosC = 18/30 = 3/5, then => sinA = 3/5, then cos ^ 2 A = 1 – (3/5) ^ 2 = 1- (9/25) = (16/25) is obtained => cos A = 4/5 = 0.8 AB = ВD / sin A = 24 * 5/3 = 120 / 3 = 40 cm.
