| Let’s use the Pythagorean theorem. The sum of the squares of the legs is equal to the square of the hypotenuse.
a ^ 2 + b ^ 2 = c ^ 2.
We know the hypotenuse and leg. c = 15 cm, b = 12 cm.
a ^ 2 = c ^ 2 – b ^ 2.
a ^ 2 = 15 ^ 2 – 12 ^ 2
a ^ 2 = 225 – 144.
a ^ 2 = 81
a = 9.
Answer: the second leg is 9 cm.
