The kettle, into which water was poured at a temperature of 10 C, was placed on an electric stove. After t = 10 minutes, the water boiled. How long will it take for the water to boil off completely?
Given: t0 (initial water temperature in the kettle) = 10 ºС; t1 (water boiling time) = 10 min = 600 s.
Constants: Sv (specific heat capacity of water) = 4200 J / (kg * K); L (specific heat of vaporization of water) = 2.3 * 10 ^ 6 J / kg; tboil (boiling point) = 100 ºС.
The time during which the water will completely boil away is determined from the equality: Q1 / t1 = U * I = Q2 / t2 and t2 = Q2 * t1 / Q1 = L * m * t1 / (Sv * m * (tboil – t0)) = L * t1 / (Sv * (tboil – t0)).
Calculation: t2 = 2.3 * 10 ^ 6 * 600 / (4200 * (100 – 10)) = 3651 s = 1 h 51 s.
