| A trapezoid is a quadrilateral in which only two sides are parallel and the sides are not equal.
The middle line of a trapezoid is the segment that connects the midpoints of the sides of the trapezoid. The length of the midline of the tapes is equal to the half-sum of its bases:
m = (a + b) / 2;
a = 2m – b, where:
m is the middle line of the trapezoid;
a – smaller base;
b – larger base.
a = 13 2 – 16 = 26 – 16 = 10 cm.
Answer: the length of the smaller base of the trapezoid is 10 cm.
