The laws of Hammurabi, what are their distinguishing features?

In 1901-1902, a basalt pillar was found by French archaeologists, it was discovered in the ancient city of Susa, now it is the modern territory of Iran. The obelisk is carved with the Hammurabi code of laws, created around 1780 BC. That is, it is one of the most ancient legislative monuments. First of all, the laws protected the king, secondly – the slave owners, the slaves had practically no rights. The king’s laws were extremely cruel, unfair to the slaves necessary for the inhabitants of Babylonia, as they maintained order and protected them from debt slavery. Fair and unjust laws of Hammurabi were aimed at ensuring statehood and gave impetus to the development of the judicial system in the state.
