The sum of all sides of the rectangle is calculated by the formula:
P = 2a + 2b. Find this value, provided that the length is 4 cm, and the width is 2 cm shorter:
P = 2 * 4 + 2 * (4 – 2). According to the order of performing mathematical operations, first of all we find the values in brackets, then multiplication and division, and only then addition and subtraction, all actions in order – from left to right:
P = 8 + 2 * 2 = 8 + 4 = 12 cm.
