P = a + b + a + b.

b = 1/3 * a = 1/3 * 6 cm = 2 cm.

Find the perimeter:

P = 6 cm + 2 cm + 6 cm + 2 cm = 16 cm.

Answer: the perimeter of the rectangle is 16 cm.
