The length of the rectangle is 8 cm and the perimeter is 24 cm. Find its area.

The perimeter is the sum of the lengths of all sides of the polygon. The length is 8 (by condition), then the width is taken as x. The perimeter is 24 = 8 * 2 + x * 2 (multiply by two since there are two lengths in the rectangle and, accordingly, two widths), from here we find x = (24 – 16): 2 = 4. The area of the rectangle is found by the formula S = a ( length) * b (Width), therefore area = 8 * 4 = 28.
