The length of the rectangle is 8 cm, the width is 6 cm. What is the width of the other rectangle

The length of the rectangle is 8 cm, the width is 6 cm. What is the width of the other rectangle, if it is known that its length is 12 cm, and the sum of the areas of both rectangles is 96 cm2.

1) Calculate the area of the first rectangle, provided that its length is 8 cm and width = 6 cm, according to the formula:

S = a * b = 8 * 6 = 48 cm².

2) Since the sum of the areas of two such figures = 96 cm², therefore S of the second:

96 – 48 = 48 cm².

3) Find its width, expressing it from the formula, with length = 12 cm:

b = S: a = 48: 12 = 4 cm – the width of the second rectangle.
