The length of the segment AB is 50 cm. Points M and N lie on this segment. Find the length of the segment MN if: a) AM = 15 cm, NB = 19 cm; b) AN = 38cm, MB = 26cm; c) AM = 23cm, NB = 21cm; d) AN = 42 cm, MB = 34 cm;

It can be assumed that point A has a coordinate of 0, and point B has a coordinate of 50 cm.

a) The coordinate of point M is 15 cm, the coordinate of point N is 50 – 19 = 31 cm and

| MN | = 31 – 15 = 16 cm.

b) The coordinate of point M is 50 – 26 = 24 cm, the coordinate of point N is 38 cm and

| MN | = 38 – 24 = 14 cm.

c) The coordinate of point M is 23 cm, the coordinate of point N is 50 – 21 = 29 cm and

| MN | = 29 – 23 = 6 cm.

d) The coordinate of point M is 50 – 34 = 16 cm, the coordinate of point N is 42 cm and

| MN | = 42 – 16 = 26 cm.
