Let the length of the sought segment CM be x cm.
1) AC + CM = AM.
AC = AM – CM.
AC = (26 – x) cm.
2) CM + MB = CB.
MB = CB – CM.
MB = (18 – x) cm.
AC + CM + MB = AB.
(26 – x) + x + (18 – x) = 37.
26 – x + x + 18 – x = 37.
26 + 18 – 37 = x.
x = 7.
