The length of the smaller base of the trapezoid is 7 cm. The middle line of the trapezium is 3 cm shorter than the large base. Find the length of the middle line of the trapezoid.

1. The tops of the trapezoid – A, B, C, D. BC = 7 cm. MK – the middle line of the trapezoid. The length of the MC is less than the length of AD by 3 centimeters.

2. The length of the middle line of the trapezoid is calculated by the formula:

MK = (BC + AD) / 2.

3. Substitute in this formula AD = MK + 3 centimeters:

MK = (BC + MK + 3) / 2 = (7 + MK + 3) / 2.

2MK = 10 + MK.

MK = 10 centimeters.

Answer: the length of the middle line of the MK trapezium is 10 centimeters.
