| The lever is in equilibrium, if the smaller arm of the lever acts a force of 100H, the larger one is 10H, the length of the smaller arm is 4 cm. Determine the length of the large arm.
Given:
F1 = 100 Newton – force acting on the smaller lever arm;
F2 = 10 Newton – the force acting on the larger arm of the lever;
l1 = 4 centimeters = 0.04 meters – the length of the smaller lever arm.
It is required to determine l2 (meter) – the length of the larger lever arm.
Since, according to the condition of the problem, the lever is in equilibrium, then:
F1 * l1 = F2 * l2, hence:
l2 = F1 * l1 / F2 = 100 * 0.04 / 10 = 0.4 meters (40 centimeters).
Answer: The length of the larger arm is 0.4 meters (40 centimeters).
