The lifting capacity of the elevator is 3 tons. How many sheets of iron can be loaded
The lifting capacity of the elevator is 3 tons. How many sheets of iron can be loaded into the elevator if each sheet is 3 m long, 60 cm wide and 4 mm thick?
1) Find the density table in the textbook and find out the density of iron: 7800 kg / m³.
2) Find out the volume of one sheet of iron. To do this, we translate the sheet parameters in the SI system into meters:
a (length) = 3 m;
b (width) = 60 cm = 0.6 m;
c (thickness) = 4 mm = 0.004 m.
V (volume) = abc = 3 m * 0.6 m * 0.004 m = 0.0072 m³.
3) We find out the mass of one sheet by the formula: m = p (density) * V (volume) = 7800 kg / m³ * 0.0072 m³ = 56.16 kg.
4) Let’s calculate how many sheets of iron can be loaded into the elevator with the specified load capacity.
To do this, we divide the carrying capacity by the weight of one sheet and round it to an integer.
3 t = 3000 kg.
3000 kg / 56.16 kg = 53 sheets of iron.
Answer: 53 sheets of iron.
