The lower part of the hind gut is enlarged in amphibians. Undigested food debris is released into it, the ureters and genital tract of amphibians open. This part of the hindgut is called the cloaca. The cloaca opens outward with one hole.

In addition to amphibians, reptiles, birds, and monotreous mammals (platypus, echidna) have cloaca.
