The main reasons for the fragmentation of the ancient Russian state.

The fragmentation of Rus became an objective, natural result of the development of feudal relations in the state and internal contradictions between the princes.

Among the reasons, 4 main ones must be distinguished. The first is the Lyubech Congress of Princes in 1097, which divided Russia into separate principalities.

Second, the active development of a natural economy, in which everything was produced for domestic consumption, because of which trade did not develop.

The third reason – there was a process of strengthening the feudal ownership of land. Under such a system, the feudal lord did not care about strengthening the state, but was engaged in the development of his fiefdom.

And the last reason was that with the weakening of the external threat, Kiev began to lose its leading role as a unifying center of the state. Over time, new political centers appear in Vladimir, Rostov, Galich.
