France in the 18th century was in the hands of King Louis, the absolute monarch. He had power over the life and death of anyone in the country. Significant financial problems changed the situation in the country; it was no longer as strong as in the past. Ideas of enlightenment developed, proclaiming equality, humanism and the rule of law. This prompted the people to feel dislike for the rich, in whose hands was all the fullness of power and they were above the law. First of all, the bourgeoisie rebelled, devoid of influence on public life; peasants who worked for the owners and constantly suffered from hunger. Public outrage eventually escalated into a revolution that changed France.
