The meaning of the victory of the Greeks in the Battle of Marathon.

In 490 BC. near the town of Marathon, a battle took place between the Greeks and the Persians. The Greeks in this battle with a swift onslaught managed to defeat and throw back the Persian troops. This was in fact the first major victory of the Greek city-states over the Persian Empire. After her, a significant part of the Greek cities and colonies (in Asia Minor) joined the war against Persian hegemony.
