The motor ship goes along the river from point A to point B during time t1 = 3 h, and returns back in time t2 = 6 h, determine its travel time between these points.
Given:
t1 = 3 hours – the time during which the motor ship passes along the river the path from point A to B;
t2 = 6 hours – the time during which the motor ship passes against the river flow from point B to point A.
It is required to determine t (hour) – the total time of one voyage of the motor ship.
One trip of the ship is the distance from point A to point B and back, from point B to point A. Then, from the condition of the problem:
t = t1 + t2 = 3 + 6 = 9 hours.
Answer: the ship passes one voyage in a time equal to 9 hours.
