Kerchemish was located on the Euphrates River, which became the northern capital of Egypt. The southern border was pushed to 4 rapids by Thutmose III, during the struggle against Ethiopian tribes. The southern and northern chiefs ruled the conquered lands, and controlled their Egyptian garrisons.
