In antiquity, the Greek state was a collection of city-states called policies – all of which were centers of historical regions in Greece. These include:
Atticu – centered in the ancient city of Athens;
Laconic – the center of Sparta;
Corinthia – the center of the city of Corinth;
Thessaly is the city of Larissa.
Also, the ancient regions of Greece include: Ionia, Great Greece, Boeotia, Ahenia and others.
