The number of nuclei of the common amoeba.

In an ordinary amoeba, like in most animals, only one nucleus is located in the cytoplasm.
However, some protozoa may have 2 (for example, a ciliate shoe) or more nuclei.
The nucleus of the ciliate is called the macronucleus (or vegetative nucleus) and the micronucleus (generative). The first of the nuclei is responsible for the processes that occur in cells, for the synthesis of proteins, contains a polyploid set of chromosomes. The second nucleus participates in the process of sexual reproduction, or conjugation, the rest of the time is inactive.
