Klyuchevsky was the first to call the era in the political life of the Russian Empire, when they came to power with the help of the guards, as palace coups.

They began with the death of Peter I, and ended with the accession of Catherine II. Some believe that the period of palace coups ended in December 1825, after the Decembrist uprising.

In 1725 Menshikov elevated Catherine I to the Russian throne.

In 1727 Peter II became emperor. Overthrown in 1730. The throne was taken by Anna Ioannovna.

1740-1741 – Emperor Ivan VI. Regent Anna Leopoldovna.

in 1741, the guards elevate the daughter of Peter I, Elizaveta Petrovna, to the throne.

After the death of Elizabeth, Peter III ruled for a short time. In June 1762, as a result of a coup, power passed to Catherine II.
