The sequence of nucleotides in DNA determines the primary structure of a protein, or rather, the order of amino acids in it.
A complementary messenger RNA (mRNA) is formed from DNA. Then ribosomes are attached to the mRNA, which carry out the synthesis of the polypeptide chain.
