The oxygen-containing acid HCIO is called hypochlorous acid. Hypochlorous acid is a chlorine hydroxy acid (HClO) containing monovalent chlorine that acts as an oxidizing or reducing agent. HCIO is a substrate for myeloperoxidase. It is used as an antimicrobial agent in solutions used for rehydrogenation of fresh and cut fruits and vegetables in the food industry.
