The perimeter of a parallelogram is 18 cm. What are the sides of a parallelogram if one of its sides

The perimeter of a parallelogram is 18 cm. What are the sides of a parallelogram if one of its sides is 2 times larger than the neighboring one?

We know from the condition that the perimeter of the parallelogram is 18 cm. It is also known from the condition that one side of it is 2 times larger than the neighboring one. And we need to find the lengths of its sides.

We will compose and solve the equation. The equation will be based on calculating the perimeter of the parallelogram:

P = 2 (a + b).

We introduce the variable x cm – the length of one of the sides of the parallelogram, then the length of the second side of the side is 2x cm.

We get the equation:

2 (x + 2x) = 18;

x + 2x = 18: 2;

3x = 9;

x = 9: 3;

x = 3 cm and 3 * 2 = 6 cm.
