The perimeter of a triangle is 17.5 cm. The length of the first side is 0.4 of its perimeter. The length of the second side is equal to 0.8 of the length of the first side. Find the length of the third side of the triangle.

1. Since the perimeter of a triangle is equal to the sum of all sides, to determine the third side, you need to know the length of its two sides. From the condition, the size of the perimeter is known. We find out the length of a) the first, b) the second sides.

a) 17.5 * 0.4 = 7 centimeters.

b) 7 * 0.8 = 5.6 centimeters.

2. Find the third.

17.5 – (7 + 5.6) = 4.9 centimeters.

Answer: 4.9 centimeters.
