The perimeter of a triangle is 60cm. Its first side is 21cm, and the second is 5cm shorter than the first. Find the length of the third side of this triangle.

The perimeter of a triangle with sides A, B and C is P = A + B + C.

Since the length of the first side is equal to A = 21 cm, then by condition the length of the second side is equal to:

B = 21 – 5 = 16 cm.

Hence the length of the third party is:

C = P – (A + B) = 60 – (21 + 16) = 60 – 37 = 23 cm.
