| The perimeter of an isosceles triangle is 35 cm. Its base is 1.5 times larger than the lateral side. Find the sides of a given triangle.
An isosceles triangle is a triangle in which two sides are equal and are called lateral sides, and the third unequal is based:
AB = BC.
The perimeter of a triangle is the sum of all its sides:
P = AB + BC + AC.
Since the base of the AC is 1.5 times larger than the sides of AB and BC, and the perimeter is 35 cm, then we can apply:
x – sides AB and BC;
1.5x – the base of the speaker;
x + x + 1.5x = 35;
3.5x = 35;
x = 35 / 3.5 = 10;
AB = BC = 10 cm;
AC = 1.5 10 = 15 cm.
Answer: sides AB and BC are 10 cm; the side of the speaker is 15 cm.
