| The perimeter of an isosceles triangle is 44 cm. Its lateral is 4 cm larger than the base. Calculate the lengths of the sides of the triangle.
1. A, B, C – the vertices of the triangle.
2. According to the condition of the problem, AB is larger than AC by 4 centimeters. Therefore, AC = AB – 4.
3. Further calculations are performed using the formula for calculating the perimeter of a triangle:
AC + AB + BC = 44 centimeters.
BC = AB, since the triangle is isosceles.
4. Substitute in the original formula AB instead of BC and (AB – 4) instead of AC:
AB – 4 + 2AB = 44.
3AB = 48.
AB = 48: 3 = 16 centimeters.
AC = 16 – 4 = 12 centimeters.
Answer: AC = 12 centimeters, AB = BC = 16 centimeters.
