The perimeter of an isosceles triangle is 46 cm. Its lateral side is 8 cm larger than the base. Write down the lengths of the sides of the triangle.

An isosceles triangle is a triangle in which two sides are equal and are called lateral sides, and the third unequal is based:

AB = BC = 8 cm.

The perimeter of a triangle is equal to the sum of all its sides:

P = AB + BC + AC.

Since the lateral sides AB and BC are 8 cm longer than the length of the AC base, we express:

x – speaker side;

x + 8 – sides AB and BC;

x + x + 8 + x + 8 = 46;

x + x + x = 46 – 8 – 8;

3x = 30;

x = 30/3 = 10;

AC = 10 cm;

AB = BC = 10 + 8 = 18 cm.

Answer: length of side AB = 18 cm, side BC = 18 cm, side AC = 10 cm.
