The perimeter of an isosceles triangle is 8 m. Find its sides if the lateral side is 1.5 times larger than the main one.

An isosceles triangle is a triangle in which two sides are equal and are called lateral sides, and the third unequal is based:

AB = BC.

The perimeter of a triangle is the sum of all its sides:

P = AB + BC + AC.

Since the sides AB and BC are 1.5 times larger than the base of the AC, and the perimeter is 8 m, then we express:

x – the base of the speaker;

1.5x – lateral sides AB and BC;

x + 1.5x + 1.5x = 8;

4x = 8;

x = 8/4 = 2;

AC = 2 cm;

AB = BC = 1.5 * 2 = 3 cm.

Answer: the base of the AC is 2 cm; lateral sides AB and BC are equal to 3 cm.
